echoscuは、[[サービス・クラス・プロバイダー]]([[DICOM/SCP|SCP]])に[[DICOM/C-ECHO|DICOM C-ECHO]]メッセージを送信し、その応答を待つ。


echoscuコマンドは、主に[[DICOM通信]]の基本的なDICOMネットワーク接続確認を行うのに用いる。インターネットにおけるpingコマンドに近い存在であるが、echoscuはpingとは異なり、[[DICOM通信]]における接続処理（接続認証含む）まで行うので、基本的なDICOM通信の接続設定が間違っていないかの確認まで行えます。
